Evotec launches "Horizon" restructuring March 16 — 800 job cuts (17% of workforce), 4 site closures, targeting €75M annual savings. Part of a broader CRO industry contraction.
Evotec announced its sweeping "Horizon" restructuring plan on March 16, 2026, eliminating approximately 800 jobs — roughly 17% of its 4,800-person global workforce — and closing four facilities including sites in Framingham, Massachusetts; Lyon, France; and Abingdon, UK.
The restructuring targets €75 million in annual cost savings by end of 2027 at a total cost of approximately €100 million spread over 2026–2028.
The moves follow 600 earlier job cuts between March 2024 and June 2025, bringing Evotec's total headcount reduction to nearly 1,400 over two years.
The cuts reflect broader pressure on contract research and drug discovery organizations, which expanded aggressively during the pandemic-era biotech boom and are now right-sizing as Big Pharma R&D budgets tighten.
For reps calling on biotech accounts, contracting CROs signal further pipeline consolidation across small and mid-size biopharma clients.
